This paper investigates the relationship between yield of carbon nanostructures produced in flame environment and flue gas emissions for an axisymmetric co-flow diffusion flame. Simulation has been carried out at four different equivalence ratios to scrutinize the optimum ratio at which maximum carbon nanostructures can be obtained with minimum hazardous emissions. Numerical model solves the time-independent Navier-Stokes equation coupled with the equations for energy and species conservation to compute the temperature and species distributions inside the flame. A simple one-step soot model has been used to model the soot formation process. The computed species concentrations are compared with the experimental values and are found to show less than 10% variation. The results indicate that the level of emission of NOXdecreases appreciably at higher equivalence ratios. The percentage emission of CO and CO2however is not affected significantly. Furthermore, HRTEM and EDX analysis has been conducted on collected carbon material to determine its internal structure and elemental composition. HRTEM indicates the formation of spherical nanoparticles having an average diameter of 30 nm and EDX spectrum reveals that the synthesized sample consists of 99.35 weight% carbon.Restraining the shuttle effect in lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery is crucial to realize its practical application. In this work, a UiO-66@carbon (UiO-66@CC) interlayer was developed for Li-S battery by growing a continuous UiO-66 film on carbon cloth. The continuous UiO-66 crystal layer contributes to provide sufficient adsorptive and catalytic sites for efficient adsorption and catalytic conversion towards polysulfides. Moreover, the hydrophilic property of UiO-66 material ensures the full infiltration of electrolyte and accelerates the transportation of lithium ions. Profiting from the above advantages of the proposed interlayer, the shuttle effect is effectively inhibited and a fast redox kinetic is also realized. Accordingly, the Li-S battery using UiO-66@CC delivers a specific capacity of 1228.9 mAh g-1at 0.2 C with a nearly 100% capacity retention after 100 cycles, and the first specific capacity is 1033.1 mAh g-1at 1.0 C with a decay rate of 0.07% over 600 cycles. Meanwhile, UiO-66@CC interlayer also has an excellent rate performance with a specific capacity of 535.9 mAh g-1at 5.0 C and a high area capacity of 6.2 mAh cm-2at increased sulfur loading (8.15 mg cm-2).We investigate the nonequilibrium dynamics of entanglement entropy and out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC) of noninteracting fermions at half-filling starting from a product state to distinguish the delocalized, multifractal (in the limit of nearest neighbor hopping), localized and mixed phases hosted by the quasiperiodic Aubry-André-Harper (AAH) model in the presence of long-range hopping. For sufficiently long-range hopping strength a secondary logarithmic behavior in the entanglement entropy is found in the mixed phases whereas the primary behavior is a power-law the exponent of which is different in different phases. Interestingly the spatial profile contains large fluctuations at the special locations related to the quasiperiodicity parameter in the presence of multifractal states.Multilayer graphene with dense interlayer space is the most explored two-dimensional material (2DMs) in high performance gas sensor. Herein, the insertion and the diffusion behaviors of NO, NO2, NH3and H2S in the nano-confined space of graphene are investigated using density functional theory calculations. The optimum interlayer distance is found to be 6-7 Å, in which the interaction strength is enhanced by 2 -3 times compared to monolayer graphene. Based on the optimum interlayer spacing, a barrierless diffusion process is observed due to the negligible influence of adsorption sites on the adsorption energy. Besides, an enhanced adsorption of NO2is found at the edge, which leads to a small barrier ( less then 0.15 eV) during the its inserting into graphene layers, while the barrierless process is observed for NO, NH3and H2S. As for sensing performance, an increased sensitivity is observed for NO and NO2at the edge because of the significant energy level shift and charge transfer. Meanwhile, multilayer graphene shows good selectivity towards NO2gas. Therefore, modulating the interlayer spacing of graphene layers is a promising strategy for fabricating practical low-cost gas sensors, which may facilitate future exploration of high performance gas sensor using multilayer 2DMs. To estimate 3D prostate motion in real-time during irradiation from 2D prostate positions acquired from a kV imager on a standard linear accelerator utilising a Kalman-Filter (KF) framework. The advantage of this novel method is threefold (1) eliminating the need of an initial learning period, therefore reducing patient imaging dose, (2) more robust against measurement noise and (3) more computationally efficient. A KF framework was implemented to estimate 3D motion from 2D projection measurements in real-time during prostate cancer treatments. The noise covariance matrix was estimated from the previous 10 measurements. This method did not require an initial learning period as it was initialised using a population covariance matrix. This method was evaluated using a ground-truth motion dataset of 17 prostate cancer patients (536 trajectories) measured with electromagnetic transponders. 3D motion was projected onto a rotating imager (SID=180cm) (pixel size=0.388mm) and rotation speed of 6°/s and 2°/s to simulate VMAT treatments.
