We aim to discuss the diagnostic use of ultra-small superparamagnetic iron oxide (USPIOs) including ferumoxytol in targeted cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Ferumoxytol is the only USPIO clinically available in the U.S. and is a negatively charged USPIO that has potential use for tracking and characterization of macrophage-infiltrated cardiovascular structures. As an iron supplement that is approved for treatment of iron deficiency anemia, the iron core of ferumoxytol is incorporated into the body once it is phagocytosed by macrophages. In organs or tissues with high inflammatory cellular infiltration, such as atherosclerotic plaques and myocardial infarction, localization of iron-laden macrophages can be visualized on delayed MRI. The iron core of ferumoxytol alters the magnetic susceptibility and results in shortening of T2* and T2 relaxation rates. Areas with high concentration appear hypointense (negative contrast) on T2 and T2* MRI. Recently, in vitro findings support the potential specificity of ferumoxytol interactions with macrophage subtypes, which has implications for therapeutic interventions. With increasing concerns about gadolinium retention in the brain and other tissues, the value of ferumoxytol-enhanced MR for targeted clinical imaging is aided by its positive safety profile in patients with impaired renal function. This paper discusses pharmacokinetic properties of USPIOs with a focus on ferumoxytol, and summarizes relevant , animal, and human studies investigating the diagnostic use of USPIOs in targeted contrast-enhanced imaging. Accuracy includes trueness and precision; they have an important position in the assessment of intraoral scanners. The existing standard models are divided into the inlay and the crown, but the operation is relatively complicated. In this study, in order to simplify the current standard model, we designed a new integration model to compare the accuracy of two intraoral scanners (CEREC and TRIOS) and an extraoral scanner (SHINING). The coordinate measuring machine measured value is the gold standard. Values of the length and angle were analyzed by converting the scanned digital impressions into an STL (standard triangulation language) format to evaluate the accuracy of the intraoral scanner and to verify the feasibility of the designed model. The result shows that the integration model can be successfully scanned and imaged. In the case of the powder-free integration model, intraoral scanner precision, trueness, 3D fitting, and imaging are better than the extraoral scanner. It can be seen straightly from the measurement result and the 3D fitting result that the intraoral scanner can acquire the shape of the standard model integrally with good repeatability. Therefore, it can be concluded that TRIOS is superior to CEREC and SHINING in accuracy, and the integration model is feasible as a reference in the examination of intraoral scanners. We assess the method by out-of-sample predictive validation. While the prediction intervals produced by the extant method (which does not account for this source of uncertainty) have somewhat less than nominal coverage, we find that our proposed method achieves closer to nominal coverage. Many patients with postpolio syndrome (PPS) experience pain. In this study, we aimed to review previous studies to investigate the effectiveness of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) for managing pain in patients with PPS. We performed a narrative review. In PubMed, we searched for the keywords ((Immunoglobulin OR IVIG) AND (poliomyelitis OR poliomyelitis syndrome)). We included articles in which IVIG was infused in patients with PPS and pain severity was measured before and after treatment. In the results, five articles (4 randomized controlled trials and 1 prospective observational study) were included in this review. Four of the studies reported that IVIG had a positive pain-reducing effect in patients with PPS. In addition, 4 studies evaluated the outcomes related to muscle strength and function. Of these studies, 3 showed some improvement in measurements for muscle strength and function. In conclusion, IVIG might be one of the beneficial options for managing pain in PPS. Pain reduction might be responsible for the improvement of muscle strength or function.
