This study provides information about the human-dog interaction and the effects of its disruption on dogs' behaviors.1. This study tested the capacity of a novel consensus bacterial 6-phytase variant (PhyG) to totally replace dietary supplemental inorganic phosphate (Pi) in broilers from one day of age, using a phased dosing strategy for the phytase and a phased reduction in phytate content of the diet. A 2x2 factorial arrangement including two treatments and two genders was used.2. A total of 1,248, one-day-old Ross 308 broilers were assigned to 24 floor pens (52 birds/pen). Two treatments included 1) a positive control diet (PC) based on mixed grains and oilseed meals, containing inorganic phosphorus (Pi) from monocalcium phosphate (MCP) and 2,000 XU/kg xylanase, and; 2) an inorganic P free (IPF) diet reformulated without Pi, reduced in Ca (-2.0 g/kg) vs. PC and supplemented with PhyG at 3,000 FTU/kg in starter (d 0 to 11, 3.4 g/kg phytate-P (PP)), 2,000 FTU/kg in grower (d 11 to 22, 3.3 g/kg PP), and 1,000 FTU/kg in finisher 1 (d 22 to d 35, 2.9 g/kg PP) and finisher 2 (d 35 to d 42, 2.8 g/kg PP) phase. Each treatment waded reduction in phytate-P content, was effective in totally replacing Pi during all growth phases, as determined by performance and tibia ash from both males and females.1. JAK inhibitor The objective of this study was to identify the effects of the antioxidant alpha-tocopherol acetate (ATA) and alpha lipoic acid (ALA) which have anti-inflammatory effects on developmental onset, severity and the progression of wooden breast (WB) based on Pectoralis major (P. major) muscle morphology and expression of genes associated with WB during the first three weeks post-hatch.2. A total of 160 newly hatched Ross 708 broiler chicks were randomly assigned in a replicated trial to either a control group or three dietary treatments (ATA 160 mg/kg feed, ALA 500 mg/kg feed or in combination).3. Microscopic changes associated with WB began at one week of age in all groups. The ATA acetate and ALA fed in combination decreased WB severity at two weeks of age (P = 0.05) and ATA alone or in combination reduced severity at three weeks of age compared to the control group (P = 0.05). Expression of myogenic determination factor 1 and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma was reduced in all dietary treatments compared to the control at three weeks of age (P ≤ 0.05), which suggested reduced muscle degeneration and lipid deposition.4. ATA and ALA fed both independently and in combination had a positive effect on mitigating WB severity microscopically as early as two weeks of age.
Contact with the setae of larvae (caterpillars) of pine or oak processionary moths could induce urticarial or allergic reactions in humans. These species are present in France and presently expanding towards highly populated areas due to climate change and/or human-mediated translocations. We aimed to describe the symptomatic cases of exposure to processionary larvae in France.
We conducted a retrospective study of symptomatic cases of exposure to processionary larvae registered by the French poison control centres between 1 January 2012 and 31 July 2019. We reviewed all medical records coded with the agent "larvae".
Of the 1274 included cases, 59% and 27% corresponded to pine and oak processionary larvae, respectively; the 14% remaining cases concerned unspecified processionary larvae. While the annual number of cases due to pine processionary larvae fluctuated during the study period, cases associated with oak processionary larvae increased steadily. Most of the annual cases occurred between January aand the professionals should be informed of existing recommendations to avoid exposure and measures to be taken after being exposed.Veterinary medicine and animal science (VMAS) students coexist in asocial, geographic, and economic context that influences personal and career decisions. The goal of this study was to analyze students' perceptions of Animal Welfare (AW) and World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) topics by gender, religion, and stage of study at the school of veterinary medicine in the northeastern Mexican border area. Survey response rate was 60% of VMAS student enrollment, which was divided in basic, intermediate, and advanced academic levels. Student respondents reported animal production followed by animals for companionship and wildlife appreciation as their job placement expectations after graduation. Students in the basic training stage rated AW in general practice to be more important compared with those in intermediate and advanced training (p less then 0.005). Compared with intermediate and advanced level students, students at the basic level considered bioethics, sustainable food production, and OIE animal welfare topics more important (p less then 0.05). Regarding gender differences, compared with male students, their female counterparts rated AW more important, depending on areas of work practice and OIE topics (p less then 0.05).
Ingestion of agricultural organophosphorus insecticides is a significant cause of death in rural Asia. Patients often show acute respiratory failure and/or delayed, unexplained signs of neuromuscular paralysis, sometimes diagnosed as "Intermediate Syndrome". We tested the hypothesis that omethoate and cyclohexanol, circulating metabolites of one agricultural formulation, cause muscle weakness and paralysis.
Acetylcholinesterase activity of insecticide components and metabolites was measured using purified enzyme from eel electroplaque or muscle homogenates. Mechanomyographic recording of pelvic limb responses to nerve stimulation was made in anaesthetized pigs and isometric force was recorded from isolated nerve-muscle preparations from mice. Omethoate and cyclohexanol were administered intravenously or added to physiological saline bathing isolated muscle. We also assessed the effect of MgSO
and cooling on neuromuscular function.
Omethoate caused tetanic fade in pig muscles and long-lasting contractied patients are required to determine whether they may be effective adjuncts to treatment.
The data indicate a crucial role for organophosphorus and solvent metabolites in muscle weakness following ingestion of agricultural OP insecticide formulations. The metabolites omethoate and cyclohexanol acted conjointly to impair neuromuscular function but their effects were mitigated by elevating extracellular Mg2+ and decreasing core temperature, respectively. Clinical studies of MgSO4 therapy and targeted temperature management in insecticide-poisoned patients are required to determine whether they may be effective adjuncts to treatment.
