Apple today announced changes to the Apple TV platform at its WWDC keynote. New apps are coming to the platform include Sling TV (finally), Fox Sports, the French streaming service Molotov and the Minecraft: Story Mode game. Apple is also updating the remote app for your iPhone. The app functions much like the hardware remote. It has a navigation using touch and Siri voice search. You can also utilize the keyboard to input information and control the accelerometer. The hardware itself is more similar to the remote. A new feature called "Live Tune In" will allow users to switch between live streaming channels such as ESPN, Disney, and many others. Automatic App Downloads allow you to download universal apps on your iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.

Apple has also addressed the issue of single sign-on for all network TV Everywhere apps. Sign in once with your details and you'll be authenticated in all apps that support it. This applies to both Apple TV and mobile iOS devices.

Once a user is logged into one network app and then any other app available on Apple TV from participating pay-TV providers will automatically sign the user into all supported apps that require authentication.

In the single sign-on process, customers can view an overview of all the authenticated applications that a pay-TV provider offers to more easily discover, download and enjoy all their favorite video channels.

This technology can be used by any network-TV application to allow single sign-on and to make it easier for their viewers.

Single sign-on is available on both Apple TV and iOS. https://bagauc.com/

For the developers, Apple's offering HomeKit, ReplayKit and PhotoKit to televisionOS. Developers now have the ability to tie home automation features to TV apps, pull images from the photostream, and a host of other options. With ReplayKit (already available on iOS 9), they can record and live broadcast from within apps, so we could see Twitch-like features become common on Apple TV, or maybe even DVR-like streaming caching. A developer preview is rolling out today, containing all of the new features, and will be available to the rest of us by the end of this year.
